Well, I just wanted to put this out to all the musicians on here. Post your opinions on whether you prefer using an acoustic electric instrument or an acoustic instrument with a microphone for both live performance and recording. I prefer acoustic electrics. I like to use mics as little as possible.

I'm the same way. I prefer to use an acoustic electric instrument instead of a mic. Less to connect and it's sometimes less expensive to get an acoustic electric instrument versis a really good mic and stand. Of course it depends.

For live, acoustic/electric's always the way to go, just because you can achieve higher stage volumes, and great monitor mixes. In the studio, however, a mic and acoustic sounds the best.

definitely agree with the last post. Even a good pickup system takes a lot of the warmth out of the guitar in a studio situation. Live is a different story and most professional guitarists even do direct inject when live, when they would record using mics in a studio
